Thursday 6 -7:30am Bikram Cambie - Sunshine

I am on strike today. I got to do the whole Bikram class. I had a good class. The heat was hot when I walked in and then cooled down till tree when it warmed up a lot again. I think that is my favourite heat fluctuation scenario.

I didn't do the triangle on the left hip but I did the lunge.

I am still really sore from dance on Monday night. I gotta do that more.

I thought about school a lot. I have a plan for next year based on permission forms and behaviour and basically being organized. Teams that get their permission forms in on time and music edits will be rewarded with field trips and extra competitions. Those that don't try don't get my extra time. Done. I will explain this early and keep good track of everything and soon they will learn about time management and responsibility and maybe even respect!

I thought about Auntie Mary. I wondered if I could be a part time quilter and start this summer before we go away and when we come back.

I thought about the family in Kelowna.

And then, the class was over. It went pretty fast today. I zoned out in my thought a lot because she wasn't wearing the mic and I couldn't hear all her words.

Wednesday 5:03 - 5:42 Skate E Spot (39 mins) & May Totals

I had a good after school skate. I put my music on shuffle and listened randomly. I put a bunch of new music to listen to on there … so everything was interesting. There was some sun but it is always shady at this time of day on this side of the stadium.

What did I do?
- Circle of ollies warm-up
- ollies over the crack and 180's
- tried to figure out no complies again - wrapping my head around it but no where near getting the foot off and scooping in one motion - more like step off, scoop, struggle, step back on.
- tried some kick flips - Jonny reminded me to kick forwards not down. I have always kicked them down.

The boy got a skate and a bit of a walk - but it started to rain … so into the stroller and soot home.

May Skate Total: 598 minutes or 9 hours and 56 minutes. 

May Bikram Hours: 13.5 Hours

May Dance Hours: 5 Hours

I had an ok class today. There were two new girls behind me. I wanted to tell them not to get discouraged. I don't think they will be back.

It was a long and stressful day - I don't remember this morning.. haha… next blog!

Tuesday 5:20 - 5:56 Skate E Spot (36 mins)

I had a great skate today. I was so angry after school for this and that. I don't want to get back into it.. but skating took it away. I just put on my music and ollied in my circle. I did an extra long warm up really trying to get my ollies high. I really tried to jump.

Next I did my ollies over the centre line and 180's. These were great today. I had a great day.

The boy got out for a skate too.

We had a terrible end to our skate today. Some older guy came around with his dogs off leash and they ran up to the boy's face. Jonny was right there trying to shoo them away and then one of the dogs relieved himself on Jonny's skate board. Bad human.

Monday 6:15 - 7:45 Jazz - Julio

This is usually Moe's class and I was looking forward to having a Moe class but she wasn't feeling good. I did get to see her.

Julio taught his Shock to the System dance. I have done this one before. My body kinda knew where to go already for most parts so that was nice. I like it when choreography soaks in and is still in there somewhere even after so long.

I was pooped at the end. 2.5 hours of dance is plenty!

Monday 5:15 - 6:15 Jazz Funk- Julio

Whoa - handography! There were so many little hands in this routine. I thought I would never get it.. but I did. Supposedly this is a piece from 2009.

Monday 10:27 - 11:27 Skate E Spot and down to Coopers 4 - 4:14 Skate E Spot (1:14)

Whoa - last night was pretty awful. The boy is pushing through some big arse teeth… four to be exact. He was crying and unhappy many times in the night and woke up at 5:30. We put him down for an early nap at 7:30 and that is why our morning skate is so late.

I had a great skate. There were lots of puddles that Jonny was ollie-ing. I did some ollies in a circle for two Chandeliars. I did some ollies and 180's. I did some shuvits and I tried to wrap my mind more around the no comply. I want to flick the board outwards instead of inwards.

Jonny pushed the stroller and I skated down the ramp and down to Coopers. I tried some manuals and skating on different textures - like chunky brick.

At Coopers I tried my nose slides and I slid two of them. I also did a nose stall come off and shuv-it. Dave Levington tricks.

The boy skated Coopers too. He went up and down the ramp and he lifted the board up onto the curbs trying to do some grinds. It was pretty cute.

We made it out for another skate - it was just a short one. The boy was not into sitting in his chair. We let him out and Jonny had a bit more of a skate - he was finally having a good little session.

Sunday 8:38 - 9:04 Skate E Spot (26mins)

We had the place to ourselves this morning. I did my ollie circle warm-up and then it started to rain. We moved under the covered strip and went back and forth. Jonny tried to teach me no-complies again - that is my summer goal. They are really awkward.

It rained harder so we had to go. We didn't bring the rain gear. We thought it would just be cloudy.

Saturday 8:53 - 9:22 and 9:33 - 9:58 Skate E Spot and Coopers (54mins)

Saturday morning I started with my ollie circle warm-up and then I did my ollies over the line and 180's. 

We went to Coopers and I started with a few 180's and then I decided to relearn nose slides on the curb. I started with some nose stalls hitting it straight on. I then tried to hit them at an angle on the non-waxed section and then I tried the waxed section. I wasn't going that fast but I think I slid one time. I am excited to go back there and try again. 

We tried to go out for a second skate on Saturday but there was a soccer game on at the stadium. We walked to a couple of different spots but everyone was out enjoying the different events in the sun. We ended up going for a nice long walk and SkyTrain ride. We had some Vietnamese at our favourite spot and walked home along the c wall.

Friday 4:20 - 4:44 Skate E Spot (24mins)

I did my four ollie circle warm-up listening to the new Atmosphere. I felt more comfortable today. Tomorrow will be even better. We are back in the swing of things. It is good to be back home at our little spot.

I started to work on my ollie and 180 line. I got a few runs in but the boy wasn't liking sitting in his chair with his snacks.

I let the boy out and he had a good little skate - although he kept wanting to take the board in the puddles … then we walked home along the c wall.

All in all - a pretty pleasant after school :-)

Thursday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Roxana

I don't know what was wrong with me this morning but I was moving in slow motion. I just made it to class… by running… and the escalator wasn't working.. so I had to hike it up the frozen stairs.

I kinda zoned out at the beginning and everything was going pretty well. I thought this might be a really good class but then the heat got hotter. Breathing was getting difficult. I had to blow my nose a couple of times because you are supposed to be breathing through your nose with your mouth closed and that wasn't possible.

I managed to make it through the balancing series by doing one set of each of the postures.

During the spine strengthening Roxana opened the doors and put the fans on. yay! I managed to finish the rest of the class with ease once it cooled down a bit. I am no good in too much heat. Good practice for skating Vegas though!

Wednesday 5:49 - 6:17 Skate E Spot (28 mins)

I had music today. I like my warm-up better with some tunes. I did my ollies over my usual cracks which is two stop and then two stop. I don't stop long. But, I did two keep going in a circle and then two more back and then a stop. So I condensed my warm-up and took away one stop. 

Next I worked on my ollies over the centre crack and then a 180. I tried to add in a fakie ollie and a shuvit if I kept on rolling - happened a couple of times! 

The boy got a skate and he walked all the way home along the c wall. No rude dog people crossed in front of us and stood still blocking the entire side walk today - so that was pretty special.

Tuesday 4:46 - 5:19 Skate E Spot (33 mins)

What a great after school. Mom popped by school for a second, I got to leave school at a normal time, and when I got home my happy family was there bearing gifts. We got to go for a skate and a C wall walk and then we had a delicious salad. I say I scored.

It took me a while to get back into my ollies. I spent longer on them than my usual warm-up. Then I did some 180's. Some of them were coming around nicely. I also did some ollies and then 180's.

The boy got to go for a skate and a walk.

I hope it is nice again tomorrow so we can skate again. 

Tuesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

I did it - I made it to class. I am proud that I got right back in routine. I told myself I didn't have to go but I woke up and went.

I am not proud of my performance however. I have a million excuses for my poor performance: end of cold, first class in ten days, dehydration from sun, airplane, beer - Vegas desert life - ya - those are all my excuses. I will have an awesome class Thursday and Friday.

This morning we went the other way down the street and found a building that is for lease with a nice parking lot. No one was there to tell us to go so we had a good little sesh. It was still pretty sweaty even though it was early.

We walked over to the bank but Jonny was too hungry to give it a good go.

This morning we started at the shady parking lot spot and within ten minutes we were told, "there is no roller skating here." Then we moved to the sidewalk wall and skated for a tiny bit longer. Not much was accomplished and much sweat was accrued. We miss E spot.

Well, it is pretty hot here. We had walked past the wall spot last night and were excited to give it a go this morning. It is scarier than I thought. It has big chunky lines to get over and lots of little rocks. We found a little shady parking area near by and had some fun skating here too. This would be a better spot  for warming up.

Friday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Roxana

I strongly dislike the parking guy. I am seriously thinking of taking a different exit and driving around the long way to avoid him. He really puts a damper on my day - not all of the time - but a lot of the time. Dude, you sit in a box and collect parking tickets! Don't be so condescending and quit telling me what to do! ARGH!

Anywho- I had a good class today. I tried to do the full triangle on the left but felt the crunchiness still so went back to just the lunge.

I had things I was going to write about.. Sam popped in my head again, Belle's play - just can't figure out how to make it this year and I feel bad, Mother's day…

Anywho - I wish this felt more like a Friday but I gotta work all weekend - so… it just feels kinda anti-climatic. BUT.. this time next week… will be awesome!

Wednesday 5:58 - 6:32 Skate F Spot (34 mins)

Most of E spot was blocked off because they were doing something up around the roof so we skated F spot today.

I ollied back and forth over that fat section I ollied over the last time we were here. Then I worked on my 180's. I got them a lot better today. I wanted to 180 over the part I was ollie-ing but my body wouldn't let me do it yet. Next time!

The boy got to skate around and he got half a c wall walk. He wanted to let go hands so that means back in the stroller. He wasn't very pleasant for a little bit and then he was nice again.

Wednesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

Jonny sent me these pictures this morning. (One from the last blog entry too) Love him. Love them.

I didn't have an awesome class today but it wasn't bad - I was just not feeling it. For one thing, my throat is mildly sore. It is annoying - it has been two weeks almost now. Jonny thinks it is allergies but I think it is just a mild cold. If it were allergies my eyes and nose would be itchy. I know my allergies. It is just a stubborn mild cold that doesn't stop me from doing anything but just will remind me to be appreciative of feeling good. When it is gone I will think - damn it feels good to be a gangster!

The other thing is my biceps, triceps, and pecs are aching from the push up YouTube I did yesterday. ouch! I guess I don't use those muscles enough. I will have to do that one again … maybe tomorrow.. build these muscles up a bit. Get ready for surfing summer!

Tuesday 6:07 - 6:47 Skate E Spot

I had a good skate today. It was a struggle to start because I have a sore throat and my muscles were tired from my busy day - but once I got into it it was good. I started with just ollies even though I didn't feel like jumping. I progressed to my ollie and 180 line which was making me sweat. No breaks - keep going - you never know how long you will get with the boy so appreciate every moment and make the most of it - but my legs are pooped - so I switched to a new line ollie and shuvit. Fun. Something different and not so much work with my legs. Then I decided to try and throw it into my other line: ollie, 180, shuvit - but I didn't get enough speed to keep it going. Next time!

The boy got a squirm, a skate, and a walk by the water. We were all pooped when we got home. Eat, bath - bed!

Monday was so glum and then… the sun came out just in time to go home. Amazing! I got home and changed and out we went. I did my ollies and then my ollie and 180 line and then I just focussed on my 180's. I did a million of them. Not really, I started counting and then lost track when a kid walked by and started jibba jabbing to Jonny.

Monday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

I didn't feel as strong today as I did last week. I guess that goes back to my theory that I am solar powered and today was such a glum morning outside.

I did the lunge on the left hip in triangle but still did not bend over. I will next week - or by the end of this week.

I thought about Justine. I gotta check her blog and/ or send her an e-mail and find out where she is teaching this summer or maybe she will want to drop in and do some random class with me at Harbour.

This is the last week of full dance team practices - three more Thursdays and then three more weeks of school and then summer! The countdown is on! This weekend was such a disappointment weather wise… anywho -

Saturday 8:56 - 9:37 Skate F and E Spot (41 mins)

We are lucky we got out for a skate this morning cause it is rainy and yuck now. There were a couple of street punks and their dog at E spot when we first rolled up so we retreated to F spot. I didn't want to be there at first but I liked it in the end because I ollied the dark grey bumpy section. You can see it in the picture above - this is a picture from the end of the last summer.

When we saw that the street punks had left we went to E spot where I tried to ollie the big section. Of course I didn't make it but at least I am trying now. I did that and some 180's. It was a good morning - would be awesome to have a second skate today!!

Friday STA Convention - Contemporary and Hip Hop- Danielle Demi

I think this was our teacher…

Both classes were great. For contemporary we had a long sweaty warm-up. I loved it. Then we did a little choreo that rolled on the floor and got back up and back down - it was fun.

Hip Hop we had a short warm-up and then a sexy roll the body and work it type hip hop.

It was just fun to dance with all the teachers. I haven't danced at Harbour in a while so I really enjoyed getting time to dance with my teacher friends.

It was a great day - with some nice grass chilling and chatting too.

I had so many things that I was going to write about this class but now I forget it all… didn't have time to write right away. 

Anywho - good class - not too hot but dripping - did the left lunge first set but sat the second set - didn't miss anything else.

Thursday 6:03 - 6:30 Skate E Spot (27 mins)

It was so hot and sunny today. I got home from work and away we went!! 

I didn't listen to music today. I just got right to it. I did some ollies on my usual path and then moved quickly to my line. I was getting the 180's around better this time. Now I just have to go faster. 

The boy got a good skate today and another c wall walk all the way home. I love my little fam!!

  • Level 2 is good for classes - I have used it in classes before - this is the original one that Jessie used in class. (Thanks Jessie!) 
  • 40 reps or two different exercises then a 15second break - 4 sections.

  • Three sets of three different push-ups with 30 second breaks in between
  • Second exercise requires a bench - I used the stool starting with the first step and then the top - but got kinda stuck up there at the end. Could use a downward dog position for class. 
  • I wasn't able to complete all of the push-ups but I know I could attain this level after a few weeks.

  • I didn't have a lot of time today and I was sore so I did a quick and easy 4 minute abs for Women
  • It was easy
  • There were two exercises with 15 second breaks in between. 
  • Reps started at 8, then 14 or 16 
  • Exercises repeated. 
  • This one is too easy for class - I wouldn't do it again.

  • Firm up toning buttocks level 1 - 15 minutes
  • 3 sets of 30 reps of bridge
  • 2 sets of 15 reps each leg lunges
  • 2 sets of 20 reps each leg hip extensions with bent knee
  • This was easy and pretty boring. I wouldn't use this one in class - maybe it was boring because there was no music?
