Tuesday 6 - 7:10 Bikram Cambie - Onkar

I like the watermelon tank top Onkar!

Onkar did some cool teaching today. He made a bench under the black haired girls butt in awkward to demonstrate how much lower to go and he also put the lid of his water bottle on her hips to demonstrate how to keep them straight and even.

I also got an amazing foot foot massage.

I hated leaving early for school but glad I made time to go. I was debating going tomorrow to go to school early to work again - but this is my time. I need a little.

Wednesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Tierny

Yesterday Onkar did not show up yesterday so I got to school really early. Tierny was here today though. The heat was not too hot. The two classes after mine were cancelled for maintenance which I'm assuming means the heater - so tomorrow might he toasty.

My mind was on school the whole class - what a week. Is it always like this? I can't wait to get it under control.

Anywho - good class. Tierney needs a sound, like a clap or a word, like change so that people no when to change position. I think I'ge said that before. She leads a very calm class and does not wear the headset.

Anywho - done done done! I hope I can go tomorrow - let's see how much work I get done today.

Saturday 12 - 1:30 Ballet - Eva

I love Eva - she is so funny and she is always happy. I can feel her love of dance.

The tall girl who dances in her socks and stands at the barre with me - she has an accent - asked me where I had been and we had a little chat about how cold the Pacific ocean is. I like her - I will have to ask her where she is from. I am happy I have a regular class - I hope I can keep going.

There were some beautiful dancers in class today - man - I wish I was young again and could start dancing now - there are so many more resources. I think I would have gotten it sooner if I was looking at Instagram instead of an old book from the 70's.

Friday 10:35 - 11:10 Skate E Spot

We had a quick skate today before dance. I didn't get much accomplished but I got to play with the boy. He was having such a good skate that he didn't want to leave.

Friday 12 - 1:30 Contemporary - Julio

I had a great first class back. I worked my butt off, sweat a ton, and danced till I lost my breath and collapsed.

Julio did his usual warm-up which I love. We skipped atf and spent the whole rest of the class learning choreo.

I had to wear the right knee pad but it helped me so I didn't have to hold back. I really felt like Inwas getting this combo - but it is an exhausting one.

Friday 6-7:30am Bikram Cambie - Roxana

My yoga outfit smelled like sweaty ballet slippers because it was the outfit I had in my dance bag on the trip. NTS: don't keep dance clothes in the same bag as smelly stuff if you don't want to smell.

The heat was not very hot today and the the fake blonde girl at the front who hates that walked out before standing series. I think Roxana took it personal - it isn't her fault the heat isn't working well and there are many other elements of the series you can focus on better without heat. But - I am just making stories in my head - she may have some issue that I am not aware if that requires super heat?

I had a good class. I'm loving getting back into home routine.

It was good to be back this morning. I didn't want to get up. I read my book way past my bed time. Luckily I got a spot by the door and a pregnant lady so I got some fresh air from the open door a lot. (The old truck guy who always goes out and in a lot was also near me.)

We are home! It was a rough start with the boy. He wasn't intolettingme skate but he turned himself around and our second half of our skate was good. Jonny got a good workout today.

It didn't rain! We got one last skate at our little park. The boy didn't go down the hills on his knee like he did before. He did do some holding on and standing - it was a nice morning. Then, we drove home.

Monday 5:30 - 7 Ballet - Anh Dillon

The ballet studio is a lot smaller than our ballet studio and there is no live accompaniment. There is nothing better than having a pianist for ballet class. It is not the same with an Ipod. I always appreciate my painists: Mrs. Hemple, Boris, and Izabella.

I stood by a big window and had a barre to myself. I did plies and looked out at a palm tree. What could be better?

Monday 4 - 5:30 Contemporary - Matt Cady

The Edge Centre for Performing Arts - this is my third time - third year in a row dancing here but this is the first time at the new studios. WOW!! They are beautiful - so amazing!! What a great place to hang out and dance at.

Matt's warm-up was on the floor and a lot of stretching and twisting. It was an interesting floor warm-up. I don't do a lot of floor warm-ups at school. Maybe I will make one for those days you just don't want to start standing.

His choreo was interesting too. The music had no words but a lot of cool sounds to hit. There was this one girl in the class wearing a blue bra top that killed it.

I had to put on the right knee pad - my bursa is unhappy. It didn't help but I made a couple little adjustments to not hit it and the knee pad was just extra protection. I wasn't the only one who grabbed knee pads when we went to the ground.

I started with my board and then switched to the stubbie. It is totally different than what I am used to riding. I usually ride long and skinny and it is short and fat. It will take some getting used to. It is good to be able to surf all different shapes. I am happy to have a new "quiver" in our collection.

Saturday 5 - 6:30 Bikram Marina Del Rey - Daniel

It is always nice to take class in different studios with different teachers. Daniel lead an awesome class and gave a lot of corrections and encouragement without breaking the flow. He used the fans once in a while too which was really nice. I was really hot and missed a couple of things but not too bad. I had a good class and it felt good to bend and sweat. Next Saturday I will go back with Carrie!

Nice small ones today - right knee bursitis is not too bad - but annoying. I hope it gets better and not worse because I want to keep doing stuff. That is the knee I use to duck dive - might have to try using foot or other knee.

Day two - nice small waves - no fear - surfed with a seal (shark food!). I love this beach!! I want to stay all day!!!Working on getting back foot in place first and a sharper pop up. I seem to be holding on too long - must pop faster.

My runpod was all charged today and I Smashing Pumkined it like it was 1990-something. We got there a little earlier today and Jonny was able to sweep with a borrowed broom and skate his ledge. The boy and I got to play in the park and play come get me in the Natas lot. Another great early morning skate.

Thursday 10:15 - 11 Surf Zuma

YAY!! I love this spot. It felt so nice and warm compared to Seaside. There were dolphins surfing with me!!! I can't wait to bring Carrie here and spend some actual time there.

I caught some waves. I need to work on popping up faster and not being a total pussy. More surfs more confidence more time - I have a positive feeling about the next two weeks.

Thursday 7:15 - 9am Surf Indian Beach

I got to surf this beach on my birthday and now on Jonny's birthday - lucky girl. I got suited and went right in the water. The waves were small and not scary. I had a hard time getting up on the new board. I am going to try my old board tomorrow. The gloves made all the difference - I was not cold - my feet were cold - but not too bad. I wish I could surf better.

Wednesday Surf Indian Beach

We got the the new stubbie all set up today and into the water for the first time. I didn't bring my warm booties, gloves, or hoodie. I thought I wouldn't need in the summer - but my hands and feet were frozen. Once they went numb it was a little better. I think I might have to get some for tomorrow - my gloves and booties are really old and uncomfortable - so I don't feel bad - it is time for some new technology!

As for the waves - I didn't get a lot of time in the ocean. The boy had his wet suit on and was playing in the little river that leads to the ocean. But - when he was done - I had to be done and we had spent a lot of time getting the new board ready to roll. Tomorrow I will get right in there and spend more time. Jonny can't pick the boy up once he is all wet and sandy - because he isn't in a wet suit. I guess I am lucky to get any surfing in at all with a toddler. I look forward to when we are all in the ocean together - like at the skate park.

Thursday Run 6:42 Km - 36:18 Mins - Long Beach Washington

Long Beach is a windy beach that cars and trucks drive on. There is a nice paved path that curves through the long grass on one side and the ocean and sand on the other. I ran on the beach close to the water as far as I could until there was a river then I turned and ran the other way. The way back was into the wind and it felt like I was super woman trying to run and actually move forward.

Thursday 9:46 - 10:49 Skate E Spot

I didn't have a very good skate this morning. I started off strong but then the time felt like it was over but it wasn't. I skated strong for about a half hour and then I played with the boy for twenty minutes. He was having a good skate day. We were having fun.

Thursday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Tanya!

The heat was not blasting again today - which is good. I like it this temperature. I was able to work on little things and try hard - and think about something other than getting out of the hot room or Gatorade. I could focus.

Tanya is by far my favourite. She moved us quickly through the standing series and then gave us time on the floor. She also gave us things to think about - like angry drivers - why not support each other on the road? I didn't have my ears in - but it was something like that.

What corrections did she give me? Arm my head to start in standing bow.... I think that was it. She said a lot that made me keep trying even when I wanted to give up. She gave corrections to a lot of people and was very encouraging.

Ignacious was in class beside me.

Good class - successful day 4. ONE MORE!

Wednesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

The heat wasn't working full on today and I know Mari was trying to fix it but it just wasn't kicking in. It wasn't cold and I was still dripping wet. It was nice because I was able to focus on what I was doing instead of dying. Mari made is work harder and hold things longer to make up for the missing heat element.

Mari gave me a lot of good pointers today. I don't know if she was speaking just to me - but I heard things today that made some good changes. She has been talking about pelvis alignment and not to arch your lower back out. Lengthen. She also talked about flexing your foot but relaxing your toes. That was a good one for me. Hmmm... what else - relax your traps when you are trying to tighten your tris - that is hard to separate the two. What else?? Hmmmm.. I will probably remember more as I do this class again tomorrow. I think Tanya teaches tomorrow!! YAY!!

Tuesday 10:38 - 11:35 & 4:12 - 4:44 Skate E Spot

First session was later than usual because we had a sprinkle of rain this morning. The first session was a good one though. I ollied big, I 180ed a lot, and I spent a lot of time on kick flips. I still don't have the courage to jump both feet on it - but it is going to happen - I am close - I can feel it.

Afternoon session was awful. I did some ollies. The boy was awful. He was awful a lot today. Fingers crossed for a better day tomorrow.

Tuesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

Day two 6am. Trooper!

I went in the same spot as yesterday because it was the only fan left and my door spot was taken. I wonder if it is just this spot or if all the fan spots do this - if the heater is blasting and the fan is going it just makes you hotter because it is blowing you with hot air??? When the fan was on full it was nice but if it was on the medium speed and the heaters were blasting I was just cooking.

Anywho - I had an ok class. I cooked a little and missed a few things.. my lower right back is crunchy but I am trying to think lengthen instead of tense and up. That seems to help.

Let's see if I can make day three happen tomorrow!

Monday 3:02 - 4:01 Skate E Spot

We only had the one session today. I missed our morning session - it really makes the second session so much better.

I did some ollies and then focused on 180's. They were frustrating. I got some good - but I just want to go fast and I guess I just have to do it. I considered trying to move my feet like Jonny said but I just can't make that happen. It doesn't make sense to my body. So, I am back to doing it my normal way.

The boy stole my board and I had to steal it back and that was annoying. He did do some good pushing today. When he sat down to play boo I didn't think I was going to get back into my skate but I had a good second wind.

Must try harder and go faster.

Monday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Ignacious

I decided to do the 6am's so I just get it done and over with and nothing comes up and I have to miss class. I had decided to do 1pm classes this summer because of the boy's nap time but since he is no longer napping - I might as well get up and go.

Having said that, I had an ok class and I miss how bendy I am during the 1pm classes. I felt so stiff and not awesome. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

This is the first time I have had this teacher. He kinda reminded me of The Boy a bit. He had some interesting, tiny shorts on. I wish he had larger shorts on. But, I just tried not to look. I just don't understand how he could feel comfortable in them - but whatever. He was a good teacher and tried to push people to do their best. It was nice to have someone new.

Sunday 9:44 - 10:14 & 3:58 - 4:43 Skate E Spot

Today is HOT!!

Our morning sesh was later than usual and it was scorching hot up at E spot. We skated for about a half hour and had to go.

I thought I was going to hip hop but the class was cancelled due to lack of students - I was pretty bummed.

Afternoon skate was mucho better but still hot. The shade grew across our skate spot. I blasted the Smashing Pumpkins and did a lot of fast, big ollies. The last fifteen minutes I worked on my kick flips. I finally feel confident on this new board. I wish we hadn't lost our E spot for so much of the start of summer.

The boy didn't skate second session. He played with his ninja turtle who was skating and I had to fix every few minutes. I should just glue that thing to the board. He did some good pushing during the morning session though.

I look forward to tomorrow's skates. I am going to get up early all week and go to yoga so I don't miss it like I have other days. It is time to take control of the last two weeks of training!!

Today was a really rough day with the boy. Both Jonny and I spent a lot of our skate time trying to get the boy doing his own skate thing - instead of skating. It was hard to get into it today and hard to focus.

The boy did some awesome skating ... at the end. I would put the board on his toes upside down and he would flick it and jump on it. (I was holding his hands) He also did three pushes and wide stance. (Also holding hands.) The boy and I watched some kids skating on YouTube today too.

I am not liking the new board size. Jonny promises me that I will when I get used to it. He said it took him four boards to like it - and now he likes it way better.

I was hoping we would get a second skate today - but we didn't. There was a game on and we couldn't walk to our far spot because the boy would fall asleep in the stroller.

I'm going to try and take this class every Sunday until we leave.

It was a housey combo today. He says he does this about once a year and the rest of the time r'nb sexy. It was sweaty and fun.

It was a small class in the ballroom studio (5).

There was a really little kid in the class who killed it.

Saturday 1 - 2:30 Ballet - Delina?

I think the teacher's name is Delina. She was teaching last week at summer school. She was a petite Asian woman. The class was smaller today - I am guessing a lot of people took summer school and took the weekend off. I found out the other girl who stands in front of me at the barre is also named Paula. I am not sure how I feel about that - she often invades my space bubble and seems totally unaware that she is doing so - or doesn't care.

Delina's class was well timed. The barre was over quick and we had a lot of time to do centre work. There were a couple of grueling exercises - adage at the barre and and adage in the centre - but with some lovely port de bras that made it bearable.

I always feel happy when I leave ballet.

It is a weird cloudy, rainy day today - so missed our skates - hoping for some good skates soon!!

Friday 1 - 2:30 Bikram Cambie - Guest teacher - no name?

Guest teacher was written on the schedule. I didn't hear this teacher's name if she said it at the start. She was speaking very quickly and she didn't wear the mic. Her class had a good flow but she was really, really stingy with the fans. I left red and with a headache. I imagined myself running up and turning the fans on myself. I dramatically did everything but... looked at them and looked at her, mouthed turn on the fans, pointed at them... you get my drift. I was dying. I should have just left. One day I will learn.

Other than the heat during the second half of the class - I had my third great class in a row.

I thought of my student Laura who I saw in the park today with her son. She was my student seven years ago. She is 25 now!! Time flies. I remember she used to do highland dancing and dye her hair really black so her icy blue eyes would seem to pop out of her head. I hope I see her again in the park. Her son's name is Darius - I have to remember that.

Thursday 1 - 2:30 Bikram Cambie - Chelsea?

I think the teacher's name is Chelsea - I know I have had her before -

I had another great class. I did everything. I pushed out bad thoughts when they came in my head and thought of happy thoughts. I tried not to minimize the in between movements. I am just happy I am doing everything again. The class goes so much smoother when I don't take breaks for this and that injury. No injuries is always better. Let's stay this way for a while please. I appreciate this time.


Thursday 8:38 - 9:16 & 3:55 - 4:35 Skate E Spot

We are back!! Our spot is back. It is really dusty and they left a lot of screws and wood chips around - but it is still nice to have our spot back. I appreciate the closeness of it.

Sunny morning sesh - I wasn't in the best of moods so I didn't have the best first skate. I warmed up with Come get Me - I know I am not allowed to play but it worked and got the boy skating on his own for a bit. I did some ollies and then 180's - I realised my 180's had gone to crap. Sad.

Shady afternoon sesh - mucho better mood and mucho better skate. I started with 180's and got them going around again. I just told myself to forget about going over the crack and did them in the middle of the cement. I will get them back over the line later. I also counted 1,2 3 - go.. so I actually just went - boom.

I did line one five times in a row. Slow and sketchy - but I did it.

I worked on my kick flips - but ran out of oomf.

Saturday 8:15-9:12 Skate Strathcona Park

I forgot to write this blog. We walked to our Ffifa spot but there were some undesirables there so we kept on to Strathcona park and skated. It was fun to skate something new and something with transitions. I have some video I will add later. It was a fun morning.

Friday 1:30 - 2:30 Hip Hop - JP

This is a level 1/2 class. It is a nice comfortable pace. JP's Sunday class has moved to noon but it is a 2/3 - I'm going to go but it is going to ne way harder than this class. But, I've been missing my JP class so I'm stoked for the JP summer Sundays. 

I stood at the front today and put it all in my head. I also moved to different spots in the room to challenge my brain when we dwnced in groups. I am going to force myself to keep doing this. 

Friday 8:35 - 9:32 Skate Ffifa

We almost didn't make it to the spot today. The boy wanted to go "other way." But, we made it. Yay!

Jonny waxed my stair and I slid over and over again. It was really fun. A sister and brother came over and played with boy.

I'm going to get those kick flips soon.

I look forward to the Fifa fence coming down and having the whole lower area open.

Thursday 1 - 2:30 Bikram Cambie - Ashley

Whoa!! Pregnant yoga teacher. She must have been so hot and exhausted - she is going to have that baby soon for sure.

This was my first class back in almost two weeks. It was good to be back. I like practicing at this time. I am so much more bendy than at 6am. It was also nice to see new people.

The old guy beside me. (Reminded me of the dad from Shameless) His towel was not absorbent enough for him. His sweat river flash flooded over to my face cloth that I use for my head at the top of my mat. I moved it and then the river flowed into my mat - so I put it back. Luckily there were only a couple of postures left - so I moved down a bit and then got out of there quick to get out of the way of the oncoming sweat. How gross is that? Never in my ten years of yoga has this happened before. NTS - Don't put your mat next to that guy again!!

I missed one set of triangle - I could have done it - just hot and tired - and my right diaphragm cramped up a couple of times - dehydration.

I thought - I shouldn't try as hard - reign it back a little - relax.

Thursday 8:30 - 9:15 Skate Coopers

Jonny's neck is out again so the boy and I skated at Coopers. I did three nose slides and a lot of bonks. That spot needs some waxing. I played around with my kick flips, did some ollies, and a few 180's. Sweaty day.

There was another little family there and the little boy played on Christian's skate board. He pushes mongo though. Pretty cute - he showed Christian how to stand up.

Wednesday 8:13 - 9:00 Skate Ffifa

We got out the door earlier today. It was a cooler walk to the spot. There was a nice breeze. Don't get me wrong - we were still sweaty and hot.

I played around with some nose slides. I tried to get my foot moved and add a jump into some - and tried to lean over more. I was doing four slides and then pushing the swing - so it was hard to get into the swing of it - but still fun pushing the boy on the swing.

I did some ollies and then messed around with kick flip placements.

We had the whole park to ourselves this morning - well wait, there were some soccer people on the field - but that is a different area that is all blocked off.

Still sick. sucks. I still love our morning outing. I managed to do two nice nose slides. I had my foot in a little bit of a different spot. Saturday 1 - 2:30 Ballet - Nicola

I ran to dance at the last minute. We are having some napping issues with the boy and I wasn't sure if Jonny needed me at home for our new technique. I got there just as the class was going in and got my usual spot at the barre.

I had a nice class. My right lower back is a little yucky still. I wish that would go away. And, sometimes I feel like my shoes are too big when I turn - like they get all twisted.

The tall girl from jazz that walks her dog was there too. I like her. She helped me move the barre. I think she must be injured though. I hope she gets better quick!

I have a new freshie. It is hot out. I did some nose slides, pushed the boy on the big swing, did some ollies, and kick flips - not landing both feet yet.

Friday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie- Tanya!!

YAY!! I had a Tanya class this morning. She is my favourite. I love her flow. I wish I could hear everything she says but I don't. I did hear one thing and it really spoke to me:

If you want something you have never had, you have to do something you have never done.

 SO TRUE! So simple. You have to make changes to achieve change. I know what I want - what do you want? Time to go do something you have never done.

Tanya asked about Christian as I was leaving. Her daughter is a year younger. We talked about how hard it is to keep boundaries and not give in... and naps. The struggle is real! hahaha - I can't believe I just wrote that. DORK!!

I'm glad we went today. I am feeling a bit better and can't wait to feel way better.

All I did was nose bonks and slides - over and over again. I started to figure out where my feet are when it slides well. I was getting in the zone going back and forth - sweat dripping down my temples - the. The boy wanted the swing - so we had some fun swing times.

I like our new spot. I like the walk there and chill after.

Today was our first after school walk to Ffifa spot. We left at 4:30 and got back around 7. We stopped at A&W for a lot of cold liquid and some fries and onion rings.

It is a hot spot - there is no shade... so we can't stay too long with the boy.

Big tent at E Spot. I got to do some nose slides. One slid really good. I'm learning where my top foot sits better.

Some kids cock blocked me and I had to move. Damn toddlers and their balls!

Wednesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Roxana

Today my goal was to take it easy. I started strong and melted and took it easy for sure. It was hot today - or was it just me?

Injuries:
- right hip - aching but not sore to lift legs - so not hip flexor but the actual hip.
- left achilles tendon - I know why this is feeling weird! I have been turning the same way in yoga instead of alternating sides and turing on my demi- pointe which over stretched my achilles - to protect my right knee bursa - so I changed the way I change sides on the floor section.
- back of knees - over stretching in the standing bow.
- right knee bursa - this has been dumb since March - when will it be back to normal??

Oh well - I feel like I had a good go there for a while - it is ok that I have some owies again - it will make me appreciate the good feeling times when they come again.

I thought about Seattle this weekend and the three dance classes - maybe I will take it easy and not even pack dance stuff?? I know if I dance I will giver - but I don't want to miss out either. I am just going to go for it. I can rest when I am dead!

Thursday 6 - 7:12am Bikram Cambie - Tierny

I like the clock in the class. I was able to do two more postures than my usual short days because I could see the time and also because Tierny doesn't make you hold everything as long as Mari.

My left hip is a bit achey so I only did one set of triangle and then had a rest. I did everything else. I liked this temperature today.

I am changed things up today. I started with Come get Me. Then, while the boy and Jonny were skating - the boy was pushing and putting his back foot up as Jonny held his hand - so cute! ... I did ollies over the lines ten back and forths then I did 180's, shuv-its, manuals, and then I tried some wall kick flips but I wasn't feeling them. Oh... with the 180's I was doing a frontside then I would pivot backside to go back to normal pushing. I think I was pushing fakie a couple of times and then pivoting back to normal. All was slow and lame except for my ollies.

Monday 1:30 - 2:30 Hip Hop - JP

Yay! I finally got to take a JP class again. It seems like it has been years - it probably has been 2.5 years! haha- anywho - I was so sweaty by this point but I changed a layer and kept going. I hadn't eaten since breakfast and felt the hunger hit me about 2:10 - and I started to fade. I pulled myself together while struggling over whether or not to take a bite of my sandwich - instead gulping the last of my water - then struggling over whether or not to go fill up my bottle - but only five minutes left.

The choreo was JP style - with lots of traveling. He challenged the class to add their own style and own ideas - in other words to challenge yourself - don't just learn the choreo - that is what will make you stand out. I just wanted the choreo to get in my head - I want to take this class more  - maybe in July.

I really liked today - but I am pooped now!!! Best ProD ever! Thanks Jonny!!

Monday 12 - 1:30 - Contemporary Jazz - ??

I didn't catch the sub teacher's name. She had cute blonde piggy french braids and was nice. We did a nice warm-up and then ATF.
ATF:
  • lay on back and lead with far arm across shoulder and make it turn you over - keep feet attached to ground so you kind of have to lace them through one another - then to get back you lead with your hips and flop back - and keep going. Relax your feet! 
  • half moon towards the direction you were going and then roll onto knees in ball and back to flat. 
  • Sit on knees - open right knee on pointed toe and lean back while rolling down the front of the leg bring together and do the other leg - you will be facing the back for the other leg. All the way across - I couldn't do this one with my right knee - I tried a couple but it bonked it. 
  • move any way you want
  • move any way you want in 16, 12, 8, and 6 counts to get across. 
Choreo: I didn't know the song or Shazam it. It had one shoulder roll to knee part - upside down that I changed because I couldn't put pressure on that right knee.  I made a different move for my old knees. It had a fun jete alonce part and then pique, pique, lame duck, fouette, fouette, attitude pirouette ending - fun!

Sunday 3:02 - 3:31 Skate E Spot (29 mins)

We squished in a quick skate before swimming. There was a young foreign skater at our spot. He didn't speak much English and the boy was intrigued with him.

Ollies, 180's, line one, wall kick flips, and come get me. Good quick skate.

The boy had an awesome swim. We brought the blue floatie and goggles. He didn't look underwater with the goggles - maybe good in a month. Blue floatie rocks. The boy kicked and kicked and kicked!

The boy had a great soate today. He skated the whole time and didn't want to leave. He has started this cute thing where he collects Jonny's board and returns it to him. He is very helpful. 

We played Come get Me and then we worked on our ollies. I did some 180's. I think that's all I did yesterday. We had just watched Chappie so I was full of excited Yolandi energy.

Saturday 1 - 2:30 Ballet - Nicola

I missed two weeks but I am back - that was fun. I wore a light blue tank top today and that just showed the sweat too much. I should stick to black.

Anywho - I want to keep going to ballet. I can feel myself getting stronger. I look forward to my super dance day on Monday and then ballet again next Saturday.

I would like to work on my lower back arch - to get the leg up, up, up at the back. That is something that I never had so I don't know if I can get it now at my age - but it is my new goal.

Friday 6 - 7:11am Bikram Cambie - Roxana

Ugh - I was dead after this class. The heat is working really good now - too good. I started strong and melted through the spine strengthening. I missed on set of triangle and one set of balancing stick - I think.

I was thinking about dance teams and classes next year and how I might want to reorganize them for the next course selections. I was thinking of opening up the boys' class to girls that I want to bgirl. But, they could also join the break team. I would like to have a contemporary class too - but I might start with a team this year. I want to reteach Geek USA and have a whole year to make it better and manipulate it - and work on technique. Two students asked me yesterday if there was going to be a grade 12 class and I said that would depend on the numbers - if you could get a bunch of grade 12's to sign up we could. Anywho - that is where my thoughts were wandering to before my brain melted.

When I got to school I had to change all my clothes cause I was still sweating in the car - even after I showered... and my stomach was REALLY upset.

Thursday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

The heat wasn't fully working today. Mari kept trying to make it work but it was just comfortable in there. I didn't mind. I did notice that the 10am class was cancelled today for maintenance so it will probably be back to hot tomorrow.

I had a good class.

I tried doing camel today but didn't going all the way back. I rolled my face cloth and put it under my right knee.

My left hip is better than it was but I can still feel it.

My right lower back is better but I can still feel a crunchy part in there as well.

My left thumb is still weak and sore.

The rest of me is good though!!

I thought about the boy's car activity center I am going to make for him in July. Instead of a side hanging thing over the window it has morphed in my mind to a lap table with saddle bags. I also see reversible - one side for colouring and the other for magnets or felt people ... or some other activity. The sides of the table will have little zip up or velcro or maybe all different to practice opening things pouches. When the table flips over there will be pouches on both sides for both activities. AND.. I was hoping it would roll up or turn into a bag or backpack to be carried in and out of the car for hotel play time - or whatever.

I had a good class today.

My left thumb (the one I broke in grade 5) is still sore from a couple of weeks ago. I hurt it breakdancing with the boys' class. It is still stiff and sore in the main knuckle. It doesn't like to have pressure applied to it - so I find myself avoiding using it and using my fingers to balance in certain postures.

Monday 7km Run 40:22mins

Seaside beach run with Carrie! This is my first run in a really long time. We ran to the right to the river and then back to the cove and home. I was worried I might have lost endurance and wouldn't be able to run but I had a good run. I love running on the beach and with Carrie - perfect morning!

We stayed in the white wash again. We each caught twenty "waves." The current was strong and the waves were about five foot in the back - it looked fun but scary.

I really like this beach. I am going to try and surf it more. The scenery is so beautiful.

SO, I was really scared to go to this class because the last time I went to Sunshine's class it was so hot I thought I was going to die. Today, however, was the best class I have had in a while. She didn't cook me, she opened the door and used the fans when necessary and I was able to push myself and work hard on my postures because of it.

Tuesday 6 - 7:10am Bikram Cambie - Mari

I left in the middle of the spine strengthening because I was picking up Carrie today and dropping her off at work. I wanted to be out of the studio by 7:10 and in the car by 7:20 and it worked out perfectly. With some teachers I could get the whole spine section in but Mari goes slower. I can't believe I guessed 7:10 right on.

I had a pretty good class. The class wasn't that full - probably because there is a 7:45 class today. I stood right by the door and needed it during some parts. That is my spot - no courage to stand anywhere else yet.

Monday 4:26 - 5:18 Skate E Spot

I didn't go that hard today. Jonny was super tired but pushed a whole hour. The boy was pretty bad at the start but then he got into it. (After he stopped running after dad and standing really close to him - then dad would skate away and he would run and chase daddy crying, "Daddy!!" and stand super close to him once he stopped.)

I got to play Come get Me! He likes his board to be lined up right in front of mine so they touch before we start. Then he races away in his tripod style and I chase him. When I get him he gets kisses and tickles. I think we both like this game a lot.

Well, I forgot my skateboard at home and didn't realize until we got to the spot. Jonny skated all the way home and got it for me.

I had a great class today. I woke up at 5 and got out of bed at 5:20. I was at yoga really early and I laid on my mat and rested. I got a spot right by the door just like Wednesday. I am going to stay by that door as much as I can. There is nothing like the door being opened and the cool air sticking to the sweaty, wet yoga clothes. Who would have thought a damp cold feeling would ever be nice? But man, is it ever nice.

The little guy with the man bun is back. I didn't realize he was gone until he was back. I wonder if he went away or did something cool? He wasn't having a good class. He must have been away a while.

Saturday 1 - 2:30 Ballet - Wen Wei

Izabella was the pianist today. Her hair has gone white and she is soft and old. I said thank-you to her at the end but I don't think she remembers me from SFU and Harbour back in the day. I was happy to hear her play again.

It was so nice to take Wen Wei's class. It was small but not too small. He spoke in images and made nice flowy exercises. He wants you to dance and not feel stiff after the barre.

I didn't feel like going but again... I am always glad that I went once I get there. Sometimes, I just feel lazy.

It was a super full class today. I forgot  my water bottle in the car and had to run down and get it. I had a really good class up until the spine strengthening. I just got too hot - and melted on the floor and didn't do any of it. I was happy to get to leave early. Tomorrow I stay the full class - I hope it isn't as hot. I think that left, back corner I was in today is a hot one.

I wanted to go to yoges Thursday so I could stay the whole class but I couldn't get out of bed after that competition night. Friday, today, I struggled but just wanted to get my three classes in this week. I got there and started strong but then slowly melted and faded away into another world. Oh well - I made it there and .. ya .. I went. Next week and all of May should be a very productive and less worky month for me - so I am happy and keeping my eye on the prize.

The parking gate was closed and once I got into the parking lot it was dark. The power was out in half the building. Sunshine handled it all well and class went on as normal. There were a lot of people so it was still warm but not as hot - obviously. The power came on when we hit the floor.

It was kind of fun yoging in the dark for a bit. I wouldn't want to do it in the dark all the time. It kinda kept me sleepy.

I feel like I haven't taken a hip hop class in a while. I liked the choreo and would like to do this one again - I feel like I would get the confidence to rock it better if I had a few days to let it soak in and then try again. I used to love that with JP's class - doing the same choreo two weeks in a row. I guess I can do that in July - or maybe even start a regular class May - when dance team is over. Maybe JP's!!

I like the way Shauna teaches - letting you know where the pauses are and boom batting her way through the choreo.

I did some ollie to warm-up. I did each line 5 times. I tried my kick flips with the wall - but wasn't really getting it like yesterday. Jonny hurt his back - that sucks. Sun all week.

SUN!!! It was crisp and sunny today. I landed a million kick flips holding on to the wall - totally cheating - but this is the summer of the kick flip, the big ollie, and the big 180. It is the summer of olling up a curb and down a couple of steps. I love summer!

I finally got a skate in. I hope I get a few more in this long weekend.

Friday 12 - 1:30 Contemporary - Julio

My back is better! YAY!! My right knee is still sore and I can't put pressure on it - but I can move and dance again! (Julio's back was sore today. I sympathized in my mind as he tried to teach through the pain.)

I don't know the name of the song. It was lyricaly but fast and it had up beat moments.

I have never done double pirouette to tour en l'aire to knee before and I did it once during the practice but then when it came to getting it in time with the music I just got too flustered and jerkily added the knee part in as a second thought almost... too fast. If I did it three more times I would have gotten it.

I liked the routine. It was just enough choreo. My head right before the last few moves was like, "ok full!" and then it was done. Phew.

Tomorrow - ballet!

Thursday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Jan

Jan rocks. I had a great class. She reminded me about my front knee in spinal twist having to be down - I had given up on that because I thought it would never go down - but the second side worked. I will add this to my things to focus on. (Focus Repertoire)

Adaptations for lower back and right bursa:
Spine strengthening - I don't lift up but I hold the position flat on the ground tightening my abs and all the core muscles. I feel I could lift up but I am still taking it easy.

I bend my knees on all forward bends.

I don't do the back bend on the knees - I know I can do it - but the pressure on my right knee hurts. I will wait till that right bursa is better before I got back to this one.

I have a hypothesis about why my lower back was having problems: C section - then all the bad technique I was doing before that was fine when I had a strong core - but after the operation I continued with bad technique and over time it took its toll. Strengthen core and clean up technique is my goal.

I woke up at 4:19am!!! I over got back on schedule.

Monday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

I thought I had my spare first block but I didn't. My kids were waiting for me. I was right at the bell.

I took it easy on anything that I thought might strain my back. My right bursa is still tender on my knee so I rolled a towel for that too. I have been figuring out some things that I do normally that may add extra strain on my back and changing them to prevent this from happening again - like bending knees when going down instead of straight legging it.

I am just proud I got up and went.

Saturday 3:52 - 4:08 Skate E Spot (1H 12mins)

The sun came out and dried up all the rain and the Johnson/ Konrad family was happy again. We all skated. The boy has a great tripod push and then knee rest coast going on. He is getting better at looking where he is going and slowing down so he doesn't bonk into a wall or window.

I listened to music in one ear and the music helped me skate better. Then, when the boy was playing with boo I used both ears. I did line one and line two, then fast ollies, and kick flips - kinda. I gotta get those. (this summer!)

Looks like we might get a morning skate before the rain comes back - fingers crossed.

Saturday 12 - 1:30 BYV Core - Ellena

I think this is the third time I have tried the core class and the first time that I have done it at the Cambie studio.

I was being careful for my back and skipped a couple of leg lifting and back strengthening exercises but I did everything else. I feel like I am going to be ok now.

I enjoy doing the different exercises. I had the blonde girl from 6am close to me so I could have someone to follow.

I am looking forward to going back to my 6am routine Monday!! AAHHH!!

Friday 12 - 1:30 Ballet - Eva

I love ballet. This was my class to test to see if my back is good yet. So far, I feel fine. I will know for sure tomorrow morning - or tonight when I am trying to sleep. I think it is ok. I hope so, because I am bored of resting and taking it easy.

I danced at the barre with the same tall girl as the last time I took this class.

There were a lot of people in class today because of spring break. A lot of youngin's en pointe. There was one beautiful little asian girl with lovely extension.

The lady in pink told me she liked my hair. That made me happy.

I only had one ballet shoe when I got there. I don't know where the other one disappeared to. I must have lost it last time on the way home? I checked the lost and found. So, I danced in my socks. I my jazz shoes and toe undies - but my socks were pretty comfy and I don't like the jazz shoe's little heal.

Walking back I thought about dancing more and yoging less - or just doing all my classes at Harbour - they have yoga - not hot yoga - just a thought.

We did a couple of skates in Las Vegas but nothing exciting. This was our first skate in a week. We were a little sketchy to start but it was a good day. My back is still not 100% so I took it easy. It looks like we will have a couple of days off because of rain.

Woo hoo - sunny morning skate. I love this weather. I did line one towards the construction and line two towards the train. Then, I worked on kick flips and I touched on manuals - a little.

The boy didn't really skate today but he was running around and he ate a lot of raisins.

We got a second session in the sun. The boy did some great pushing and tripod skating. (One foot and two arms) He was awesome until he zoomed past the line and didn't listen to me when I told him to stop. It was just before we left. He blew it right at the end. Good time up until then.

Today was a pretty spectacular day :-)

Yay!! My back is all better. I have been out skating with the boys the last couple of days but just pushing and playing with the boy. Today I tried olling and it didn't hurt so I proceeded to line one and two. I didn't skate that long - but it feels good to be back. (Haha)

We squeezed another quick skate in before swimming. The boy did some good skating. I did line one and some kick flip practise. I'm not going to lie, my ego wouldn't let me do sketchy line two because there were people sitting nearby. (The were drinking and sitting in the sun -)

Friday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Roxana

YAY - We slept last night and I made it to yoga this morning. It has been a rough three weeks of sleeplessness. Hopefully, the boy gets back to some sort of normalcy before we go away. (I can't wait to go away!!!!)

Right knee bursa and left elbow bursa are recovering from some dance bonks on Tuesday. I rolled my facecloth to put under my knee for a couple of the kneeling ones and that changed the pressure point and allowed me to do the postures.

I had a really good class. I was choreographing in my head for most of it. At one point I wrote an angry letter to strata and then I got back to choreographing.

I had a pretty good class today. It was hot during balancing series but I didn't do too bad. I was beside the other Harbour dancer so that made me try not to give up. It felt like the heat got hot and then she turned it off and just simmered for a while.

The boy and I har some cuddle time at the start. He wasn't into skating but he did eventually steal my board and sat and pushed around. When he sat and played with Boo I got a half hour in. I did line one five times game. Now, I gotta do it faster.

I worked on line two. It is even slower than line one.

Our area was quite busy with pedestrian traffic today. It was a beautiful morning.

Caitlin met me at Harbour today. She did really good. I had so much fun. I forget how much I like ballet. I have to take class more often.

This was a level 1/2 class and it was pretty easy. I want to feel more confident and take level 3 again.

Today I played my line game. I tried to do line one, five times in a row without making a mistake. I made it to four.

I started working on line two. That is a tricky one. I'm going to start with line two tomorrow and then I'm going to do line one five times in a row.

The boy didn't skate until we got home. Maybe he will skate more tomorrow.

I had a good class yesterday morning. However, by the time I got out of my car and walked into school something was wrong with my lower back and it got progressively worse. It was seizing but not shooting pain. Jonny gave me a back pill and I was able to sleep but I am taking it easy today.

We made it through one of the longest wet spells I can remember. The sun came out and we had a beauty of a day. If the boy would have napped during nap time we would have gotten two skates in. Oh well, we got a morning skate and an afternoon swim. Not bad!

The sidewalk trees in the large circle planters are gone. This means less shade in E spot. It was extremely sunny up at E spot.

The boy had a great skate. We were working on push, push, push, and up!

Tuesday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

I didn't have a very good class. I didn't have any fight in me. 0/4 for the standing bows. I missed: one standing head to knee, one balancing stick, both left triangles... and that is it. I did remember my balancing stick corrections from yesterday and it is less work this new way. I was trying too hard before.

There aren't as many people there on Tuesdays. A lot of people left early. Mari mumbled something under her breath about it but I don't know what she said. I hate leaving early to get to school. I am happy to not be leaving early this whole week.

Monday 6 - 7:30am Bikram Cambie - Mari

My challenge for the week: 5 6am classes / try to focus and don't think / hold everything until the end.

I got a 0/4 for my standing bow. I didn't hold any of them to the very end.

Mari gave me corrections in the balancing stick: suck in stomach, control ribs, no back bend, hip down. I didn't realize I was back bending a little bit during it. But I can see that now because is dance you want to try and keep your back up - so I must have kept that feeling a little bit. I like getting new corrections - but why can't you give them to me years ago? Now I have to break my bad habits. But late than never I suppose.

I tried to not think. My mind kept going to an e-mail that I got from Gloria about meeting Thursday morning at 8am. (Which means I would have to leave yoga early or not go Thursday.... all to make up for a day that I was sick?? I hope she can find another time but maybe I should just accommodate her. Another part of me thinks if I accommodate everyone I will never find the balance I seek in my life. \

I tried to focus on breathing in an out and would go back to this as soon as I noticed my mind had drifted off again. Then I thought, at least I am not drifting off to my brother, which would make me think for a second about him, then I would go back to my breathing. (I did think about getting Acrow to tattoo over Sam's tattoo.)

That girl that I thought I recognized from Harbour is from Harbour. She does ballet on Sundays. I have to get back to ballet class. Once a week would be great - now where to fit it in?

I was expecting to skate twice today but the boy didn't nap - so we couldn't go out in the afternoon because he would have fallen asleep in the stroller and then bed time would have been really messed up.

Morning sesh: I skated for the first 17 minutes doing ollies and 180's. I tried to get my 180's faster and more comfortable. Jonny was pulling the boy on his skateboard.

I got to skate with the boy next and we did some pushing around. I got some video too. I am adding it to my big video that I will publish when he gets a little older (a skate progress video). The boy had a really good skate today.

Friday 12 - 1:30 Contemporary Jazz - Julio

I had a lot of fun in dance today.

Julio did a warm-up and I don't think I have felt this strong in one of his warm-ups ... ever. I am finally getting my core strength back after the choppy choppy.

Next he did an exercise laying on the floor that helped you to recognize the size of your core. It was quite interesting and I think I would like to try it on my kids one day:

  • Lay on the floor and relax your arms out to the side and your legs. Relax everything. 
  • Imagine an x - I couldn't hear where - but I am assuming he said from one hip up to your waist and across the other hip to the waist. 
  • Without tensing any of your limbs - squeeze your abdominals. 
  • hold for 5 / 10  15 seconds. 
  • focus on finding your parallel - flex your feet (but don't have Barbie feet - like your standing - relax your toes) 
  • press heals into the ground 
  • Squeeze and hold for 5 / 10/ 15 
  • Don't forget to breathe normally, otherwise the exercise is even more painful. 
  • Lift up your hips as high as you can off the ground while squeezing abs and pressing heals into the ground. 
  • Hold for 5 / 10 / 15
  • Emphasize that this is your core and how far it extends. This is how much work you have to feel and do to work it while you are dancing. 
We did ATF: 
  • six step turning and pirouette en dehor, six step turning to face where you came from and pirouette en dehor, step to the mirror and port de bras all the way forward, ball change two piques, pirouette en dehor and en dedans facing where you were going. Confusing to write but fun. 
  • Run run, jete to the wall, (pas de chat) turn to where you came from and repeat, no run jete to the mirror, jete to where you were going, run run (or chasse pas de bourre?) side jete. 
We did a quirky combo with lots of floor. 

It was a great class. I look forward to taking his class again soon. (With Carrie on Focus day?)

Morning sesh:
I started skating. The boy was having... a challenging day... and I know I made him worse. I ended up hugging him for the first while which I loved but shouldn't be doing. The sun was shining and I was soaking in the boy cuddle - it was so good. However, I he wouldn't go down - so I was stuck hugging for a long time. Finally, he wanted to skate and we ended up having a lot of fun pushing together. He pushed from one wall all the way to the other. I pushed fakie and worked on that feeling more comfortable while at the same time trying to teach him not to push mongo.
(I didn't count this session in my "skate" time because I didn't really skate seriously.)

Afternoon sesh:
The boy sat in his chair and we had a good skate sesh. I did ollies and 180s and just tried to get them going fast and comfortable. I did those until I was sweaty. Then, I started my kick flips and they were not doing too well. Jonny was sitting and I checked the time and we decided to try and make it to family swim for the boy.

I had a good class today. I had to blow my nose twice still - but that is ok. I didn't miss anything. My left hip is still sore but I held the lunge and tried a little bit of the bent over part in the triangle. I think not doing that part for so long is making that hip worse. I need to at least hold the first part to stretch it.

Yay!! I am not sick anymore and I feel happy and energetic. Jonny and I had a great skate sesh. (The boy sat and played with his Boo.)

I ollied and 180ed and then focused on my kick flips. I had this great vision of landing them today - but it didn't happen. I am getting close though. I want to get them before Vegas and if not then before LA for sure. I got nice and sweaty and the sun shone through a bit - it was so nice to be out with my boys.

We had a short swim after - we have to remember it is all lane swimming starting at 5. It was a good day :)

I made it! I am having one of those crazy busy weeks. I was too tired to get up for yoges in the middle of the week - and I had to pick up the doughnuts for our fundraising - so I just slept. Today, I don't have to stay after school so I got up and went. I had an awesome class. I tried really hard. I stood beside the lady who wears the bandana - she tries hard too - so we were a good team today in the far corner by the window.

I didn't do all of the spine strengthening series - I let my back rest one more class. I will do them all on Wednesday. 

I did ok today. I was trying hard. I remember Mari saying, "do this and that and that." And I tried to do all those things and ended up making her giggle cause we caught eyes and I was ugh ugh ughing through the three things she has asked us to do.

I like Roxana so much. She is so kind and nice to me. She asks about my break and when I leave she wishes me a good weekend. It makes the whole experience just that much better.

I put my left lower wing out yesterday hugging Keli. (She is shorter than me) It isn't too bad and I wanted to come and stretch it out in the heat. I didn't do the spine strengthening section though. I didn't feel like flexing it - just stretching it out. I was hoping it would be gone when I woke up -but it is better now than it was before I went. I am glad I went.

I had a successful first week back after the break. I am ready to kill the last three weeks and three dance competitions of this semester.

AND... I should have sat on the commode and made an elimination before I rushed off to yoga this morning. Gross. 

This song was on the radio because they were talking about Bill Gates supporting water purification from doo doo. The Sway in the Morning gang wasn't feeling it - like most Americans - but they already do it in Asia. 

Anywho - I could have had a better class. It wasn't too hot. I did pretty good. I just missed a few things. I am thinking positive about a good class Friday. I am proud of myself for starting this back to school week well.

Monday 6 - 7:30 Bikram Cambie - Jan

I had a great class this morning. My wings and hips are a bit sore. The heat was hot at the start and the end but it died in the middle and I could tell Jan was upset that there was something wrong with it. But she kept the intensity high and encouraged us to use the break in the heat to push farther and go somewhere new. I didn't mind the break in the heat - I actually loved it. I was hot and sweating and working hard without it. "Blondie" left early -- she hates no heat. I don't get it. You are already there - just do it. But, everyone is different... I don't know her story - I just make things up in my head according to what I observe.

Friday 1:30 - 2:30 Hip Hop - CJ

CJ is so cute. She taught a "dancing like you are in the Florida sunshine" choreo. (If I heard her correctly. It wasn't too long or hard which is good cause my brain is full from all the dancing I have done this week. It was a nice way to end my dance week.

Friday 12 - 1:30 Contemporary Jazz - Julio

Jessica took the SkyTrain downtown and met me at Harbour today. She killed it too!

I was really sore and bruised from Mose's class and I wouldn't have gone if she hadn't come. I'm glad I went. We did a floor warm- up. (I have done it once before )

We did a cool choreo that started in a ball on the floor. I felt like it was quite long - but once we did it a few times It seemed shorter. There were just a lot of little moments to remember.

I hope I get to do this one a second time...
